ISO 22737:2021 Intellignet transport systems

A. Introduction of ISO 22737: 2021
With the recent rapid development of AI technology and the advancement of radar and lidar technology, various automobile manufacturers are releasing automobiles equipped with autonomous driving systems.
For example, Tesla's vehicles, which have largely completed autonomy, and a large number of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers are also announcing autonomous vehicles. However, there are currently no vehicles that satisfy the five-stage autonomous driving, called the completion of autonomous driving.   In addition, comparison between systems is difficult due to the scattered development of numerous autonomous driving systems. In line with this situation, ISO 22737, the first standard announced for autonomous vehicles by ISO, is ISO 22737.

Among the various types of autonomous driving, ISO 22737's focused procedure is a low-speed automatic driving system operating on a designated route. Low-Speed Automated Driving (LSAD) may be primarily applicable to low-speed driving environments, such as commercial or business areas and campus areas.   As you can see from the recent deployment of fully autonomous late-night buses in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, only during late-night hours with low vehicle communication, Self-driving, which operates at low speed on designated routes, is very close to our lives.   For safer operations of these systems, program manufacturers, operators, users, and regulators must provide safety support. Procedures in LSAD systems can help to include these safety requirements and make performance requirements referenceable.

B. Necessity of ISO 22737: 2021

- Can provide a guide to safer autonomous driving systems.
- It is possible to secure guidelines for route-type autonomous driving and unmanned autonomous driving that will be further expanded.
- It is possible to secure procedures and guides for the development direction of autonomous driving systems.
- It is possible to preempt technical and regulatory directions for autonomous driving and route autonomous driving.
