ISO 26262:2018 Road Vehicles – Functional Safety
[ Introduction ISO 26262:2018 ]
ISO 26262:2018 is an international standard for automotive functional safety established to prevent accidents caused by errors in electronic/electrical systems mounted on automobiles.
The importance of functional safety is increasing as the number of electronic controls in automobiles has increased dramatically in recent years, and many parts of automobiles are covered by electrical and electronic controls.
This standard defines the activities required along with the process model, tangible and intangible evidence, and any methods used in development and production.
The scope of this standard applies to electric/electronic systems installed in passenger vehicles with a maximum weight of 3,500 kg and does not apply to test-built vehicles, vehicles modified or altered for persons with disabilities, and vehicles produced before the standard is established.
[ Necessity of ISO 26262:2018 ]
- • Improve the quality of safety
- • Standardization can increase the efficiency of the development process and reduce inventory management and costs
- • International standards for safety increase customer and account confidence
- • Acquiring standard can enhance the corporate image of investing in safety to create a positive image for customers
- • Respond quickly to ever-expanding automotive electronics and related safety devices
